Staplex® Model TSP-CF and
TSP-CF-2 Critical Flow High Volume Air Sampler Systems are
designed for Total Suspended Particulate (TSP) ambient air
sampling for compliance with U.S. EPA Reference Method.
The Critical Flow Device is a
dimensional venture used to control gas flow, When applied to a
high volume air sampler, this flow control principle incorporates
a smooth-wall venture orifice that gradually opens to a recovery
section. Vacuum is provided by a motor downstream of the venture.
Over 95% of the energy lost in differential pressures across the
restricting orifice is recovered by this design,
Flow control is accomplished by
occluding (restricting) and thus accelerating the air flow through
the venture. At some point in the flow stream, the air velocity
will equal the acoustic velocity or speed of sound in the throat
(smallest diameter portion), and "critical flow " will
be achieved. At the critical flow point, the critical flow device
will not allow more air through under existing temperature and
pressure conditions. As long as downstream changes are small, all
conditions at the venturi (including the flow rate) are determined
by upstream conditions. This condition is referred to as “choking"
and is a distinctive characteristic of all volumetric critical
flow devices.
The Staplex® Critical Flow
High Volume Air Sampling Systems use this principle of choke to
maintain a constant actual flow rate of 40 cubic feet per minute
(1.13 cubic meters per minute) over a sample period. Since
critical flow through the venturi is not greatly affected by
changes in filter loading, ambient temperture or barometric
pressure, a stable volumetric flow rate is maintained as long as
power is provided to the sampler. The critical flow device
regulates flow at a constant but unadjustable rate without any
moving parts or electronic components.

Calibration
Kit - Models CKHV810 - U.S.
EPA prescribed method for accurate calibration of High
Volume Air Samplers. U.S. EPA recommends
that High Volume Air Samplers be re-calibrated at least once per
year (or when major components such as the motor or flowmeter are
changed). Model CKHV810 can be used with 4" or 8" x
10" filter holder assemblies. (see
additional data sheet)
PM10 Size
Selective Inlets -
for U.S. EPA PM10 environmental air sampling. Staplex® PM10 Size
Selective Inlet is available separately as Part No. PM10-SSI for
conversion of existing TSP (Total Suspend Particulate) High Volume
Air Sampling Systems to PM10 System. (see
additional data sheet)
4, 5 & 6
Stage High Volume Cascade Impactors - for
particle size separation
(see additional data sheet)
